  2. Wash and assemble all breast pump equipment
  3. Find a comfortable location to express your breast milk
  4. Gently massage your breasts or apply a warm washcloth
  5. Center the nipple on the plastic flange.  Begin with the pump on the lowest setting and increase the speed until similar to your baby’s natural sucking rhythm
  6. Pump each breast for about seven minutes
  7. Massage your breasts a second time
  8. Pump each breast a second time for five to seven minutes or until milk no longer flows
  9. When the milk stops dripping release suction at the breast as you would with your  baby
  10. Rub any excess milk onto your nipples and areola
  11. Pour the accumulated milk into a clean container for storage.
  12. Label the container with the date and amount and immediately refrigerate what you don’t plan to use right away
  13. Detach and disassemble the pump washing all components according to instructions.
