How long does it take to nurse?
As a new mother who has decide to breastfeed then it’s very likely that you’ve wondered, how long does it take to nurse?
The answer depends on you, your baby and a few other things such as:
- how developed your milk supply has become
- how quickly your “let-down” happens, immediately or a few minuted into nursing
- how fast your milk flows
- how you position your nursing baby
- how quickly your baby takes to get into nursing
- how sleepy or distracted your baby may be
- how old your child is
As babies grow older, they become more practiced and can cut feeding times nearly in half from when they were newborns.
To help each nursing session be as productive as possible make sure your baby has latched on correctly. As always if you have concerns about the length of the feedings be sure to contact your doctor.
