Five item breastfeeding checklist

There are several items that can make your first breastfeeding experience much better.

Nursing bra – The eight month of your pregnancy is a good time to pick up three or more nursing bras.  If you can have a professional fitting for your measurements have changed since your pregnancy began and these bras fit differently than the ones you have been wearing.  You should take the time to try them on before you buy making sure there is some extra room as your breasts will swell as your milk comes in.

Breast pads – These are the second most important item on the breastfeeding checklist.  They are used to keep your clothes from getting soaked with milk if your breasts should leak in the first days of breastfeeding,  Breast pads come in disposable and washable types and you may find it helpful to keep a few of both types handy.

Breast pump – this may be one of the handiest items you will purchase.  having a breast pump allows you increased freedom and lets your family participate in feeding the new addition.  Check with friends and family for their experiences in which pumps worked best for them.

Special pillows – To help support you or your child during breastfeedings be sure to have a pillow handy.  There are several specialized pillows available and come in a v-shaped and o-shaped design.

Footstool – Some mothers swear by a footstool in helping them find a comfortable position during breastfeeding.  Anything you can do to help prop your feet in a comfortable position falls into this category.

So a short five item breastfeeding checklist that will make your life easier as you and your child find a rhythm of breastfeeding that works for you.
